Give The People What They Want

I originally started this blog because I love writing, and it was a good way for me to do that on a regular basis. It helps me stay practiced so that when my Navy career is over, writing can be a major part of whatever I do next.

Therefore, I would get on here and write about 800 words 3-5 times a week. I’d look at what I had written and mostly be satisfied. A few people would stop by to read my words. Some would comment on what I wrote. Every once in a while, I’d get an e-mail from someone who enjoyed it. It was a small website, but it was nice and I liked it.

Fast forward about a year… I would get on here and write about 800 words 3-5 times a week. Pretty much the exact same number of people would stop by as when I started the site. I would still get the occasional comment or e-mail, but there really wasn’t any growth. This didn’t bother me overly much since this forum was originally developed as my writing practice pad, and I have actually developed a few life-long relationships because of Military Dad. I was very appreciative.

Then, as a way to stay connected with my wife and kids while I’m away, I started the Adventures of Truman, Sweet Peach, and Footy. All of a sudden, people couldn’t stay away. They were stopping by 3 or 4 times just to see if I had uploaded any more pictures, and more people were showing up every day. The message was loud and clear.

We love it when you post pictures of stuffed animals! That whole putting the words together to make stories thing…

Well, I’ve heard you internet. If all you want to see is pictures of dolls eating my food, I’ve made it even easier for you. I created a page that is nothing but the posts from the Adventures of Truman, Sweet Peach, and Footy. Unfortunately, the old website design didn’t support extra pages very well. Therefore, I switched over to this new design where you can clearly see the pages on the right side. It probably would have made more sense to just change the entire site’s name to the Adventures of Truman, Sweet Peach, and Footy and create a Military Dad page, but I get stubborn about some things. 🙂

In all seriousness, I am flattered by the attention that the helmsmen have attracted. I think it does help to slightly raise awareness for the things that military families go through. I’m going to continue to write, and I’ve actually been secretly working on a novel for the past few weeks, but if you want stuffed animals, I’ll give you stuffed animals. After all, you have to give the people what they want…
