If you’ve visited Military Dad in the past few days, you’ve probably noticed an awesome new addition. If you look towards the top of the screen, you’ll see the new logo for the site. If you think that it’s pretty cool, it’s probably because it is.
When it comes to art, I am horrible. I can barely play Hangman because I lack the ability to even draw a simple stickman. If part of my job ever involves me drawing a straight line or painting a picture that doesn’t make people nauseous, I will seriously be fired within a week. I am quite possibly the least artistic person on the planet.
Therefore, when I decided that I needed a logo, I didn’t even attempt to put anything on paper. Instead, I turned towards my rock star wife and asked her to put something together for me. I had ideas, but honestly, they all sucked, so I just let her run with it. I just told her that I wanted something simple. She is incredibly artistic and crafty, so I knew that I wouldn’t be disappointed.
This is what she put together, and I love it. It’s a very simple drawing. You have me there in one of my uniforms (we seriously have way too many different uniforms in the Navy). You have Little Dude on the end wearing a hat. If he looks really small compared to the rest of us, it’s because he really is just that small. You have Princess next to him in a dress and tiara because that’s how she goes through life. Then, of course, you have CinC HOUSE right next to me.
Behind us, you have an anchor which further symbolizes the Navy. Originally, she was toying with a sort of “balancing act” type of logo where I had the anchor on one side and my family on the other. We decided to go away from that though because I don’t really try to find a balance between them. We’re a military family. It’s just what we do. The Navy is a huge part of our life, and to be honest, it’s something for which we are all incredibly grateful. It has given us many opportunities that we would not have had otherwise. It would have been incorrect to exclude it from the logo or represent it as something that works against the family.
As you may also have noticed, I’ve slightly changed the design of the site. To be honest, it looked a little shabby compared to the new logo, so I had to spruce it up. I now have a Facebook plug-in where you can like this blog without actually going to Facebook. I need to figure out a way to incorporate Twitter, but for now, you can find it on the “Contact Me” page. I’ve also added a link below “About Me” where you can ask me anything. Be prepared that the answers will be published on the site, but as long as the question isn’t rude or abusive, I’ll definitely address it. If you ever wanted to ask a sailor anything about his life, there’s the opportunity.
Hopefully, you like the new design. If you like the logo, go ahead and drop a note in the comments below. I’ll pass the word on to CinC HOUSE. That way, she will have the opportunity to gloat over yet another thing that she is better than me at.
